JAMES C. GATES DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States
National Employment Awards Program

The James C. Gates Distinguished Service Award is given each year in recognition of extraordinary and meritorious service to those who have substantially contributed to advancing meaningful employment for veterans. The Award gives particular attention to those involved in outreach to homeless, disabled, or long term unemployed veterans; those whose efforts deliver veterans from despair by assisting them to become employable again. Examples: persons or organizations that place veterans in jobs; provide counseling and training that leads to a job; provide housing for veterans and their families; provide work clothes, tools or arrange for temporary transportation so a veteran can accept a job offer. Basically, the efforts of the individual or organization that receive this award will stand out among all others.

ELIGIBILITY:
Any individual, group or organization that can be considered extraordinary in their contributions to advancing veterans employment opportunities.

NOMINATIONS:
Any individual may nominate a candidate for this award. Departments will select one candidate for national consideration.

PROCEDURE:
Recommendations should include a statement detailing the exceptional character of the nominee's accomplishments in providing employment services to veterans.

Narrative statement relating activities of nominee, emphasizing those unique, unusual, exemplary or outstanding accomplishments in job development or other employment related actions on behalf of veterans.

Examples of special job development efforts and/or other outstanding services.

If nominee is an individual, send an 8x10" clear glossy head and shoulder photograph along with the nomination.

Except as required above, do not submit still film, movie, tape recordings, transcript records, drawings, diagrams, meeting programs, books or other material that does not support the requested information.
